Job Description



GENERAL SUMMARY:

As an Optician, you'll be the expert guide helping patients discover eyewear that enhances their vision and lifestyle. You'll combine clinical precision with personalized service, using advanced fitting techniques and product knowledge to deliver exceptional results that make a real difference in how our patients see the world.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leverage the E.A.R.N. for Eyewear Consultants methodology to customize each patient's prescription, troubleshoot previous eyewear challenges, and optimize their visual experience
  • Educate patients on lens options and technologies, clearly communicating the benefits of each product family to support informed decision-making
  • Demonstrate expertise in frame materials and design, expertly pre-adjusting frames to ensure accurate measurements and optimal fit
  • Perform precise measurements and detailed documentation required for lens fabrication, ensuring accuracy at every step
  • Efficiently process eyewear orders into our laboratory software system and proactively track orders through completion and delivery
  • Verify spectacle prescriptions using auto and manual lensometry techniques, guaranteeing quality and accuracy before patient delivery
  • Dispense, adjust, and troubleshoot eyewear with expert problem-solving skills, ensuring patient satisfaction and comfort
  • Navigate vision insurance coverage with confidence, interpreting benefits and explaining options clearly to patients
  • Maintain visually appealing product displays and clean eyewear inventory according to store standards, creating an inviting patient environment
  • Support front desk operations including patient check-in/check-out, appointment scheduling, and insurance verification to ensure smooth clinic flow

Qualifications



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Requires high school diploma or GED
  • Previous computer experience and basic math skills preferred
  • Previous customer service, retail, or hospitality experience preferred
  • Previous dispensing/optical experience preferred
  • Must be able to walk, bend and stand for extended periods of time Completion of all required training courses as directed by Henry Ford Optimeyes
  • Must meet or exceed core customer service responsibilities, standards and behaviors as outlined in the HFHS’ Customer Service Policy
  • Must practice the customer skills as provided through on-going training and in-services.
